Tawang, Apr 2:  In view of the high alert due to the emergence of the first Covid-19 case in the state and in neighbouring Northeast states, Tawang Deputy Commissioner Sang Phuntsok on Thursday called an emergency meeting with the representatives of the NGOs and Bazar  Welfare Committees who are currently working to combat the pandemic in the district voluntarily.
DC asked the attendants to put forward their opinions and innovative ideas to optimise availability of the essential commodities from within the district’s available resources. After a threadbare discussion, the house unanimously decided not to procure any fresh vegetables from outside the district and the department concerned was asked to mobilize local vegetable growers so as to ensure minimum involvement and assembly of people. A high-power committee under chairmanship of PD DRDA Tawang Lobsang Tseten was formed to monitor the requirements of essential commodities in the district and Tawang Lamps has been asked to procure potato, onion and other cereals. Lungla and Jang Sub-divisions were represented by the respective ADCs. DC appreciated the NGOs and Bazaar Welfare

Committees of all the three markets of Tawang for helping the people by
delivering essential items at their doorsteps over the last few days.
All the Covid-19 precautionary guidelines like maintaining of social distancing and wearing of masks were followed during the meeting. DIPRO
