CHANGLANG, Jul 13: The Tangsa Script Development Committee on Monday organized a condolence meeting in remembrance of its founder and chairman Lakhum Jogkah Mossang who breathed his last on July 11.
Born on January 1, 1933 at Old Plone Village under Namphai Circle, Mossang was a visionary and an activist in the field of script and literature. “He started to create the Tangsa common script in 1990 and sacrificed his whole life including his personal properties to develop it, which the Tangsas will not be able to forget,” President, TSDC Ngungtim Changmi said.
After his prolonged efforts, on November 2, 2019, he finally succeeded and with support from various sub-tribes of the Tangsa community formed the Tangsa Script Development Committee at Jairampur to continue the tasks. On the same day he also handed over all the script-related matters to the said committee. The broad recommendations of the script have been submitted to the Directorate of Elementary Education GoAP for recognition.
He took his last breath succumbing to a stroke at his residence at Manmao. “Lakhum Jogkah Mossang’s death is a great loss for the whole Tangsa community,” the press statement of the Committee read.
