PASIGHAT, May 14:

Minister Power, Industries, Textiles and Handicrafts, Tamiyo Taga on Sunday visited Kerang Village and interacted with the fire victims of the May 11 fire accident. He was also accompanied by OSD to MoS Home Komjum Riba, BJP District president Yomto Jini and ADC Rumgong Tuli Gangkak among others.

Lamenting over the losses suffered in such accidents especially the loss of age old and rare traditional ornaments having great cultural significance, Taga exhorted the villagers to remain cautious so as to prevent the recurrence of such accidents in the near future. He also advised the villagers to refrain from haphazard and ill-planned construction of houses to avoid such untoward accidents and also to curb losses of such unprecedented scale.

Empathising with the victims who lost their homes, Taga assured to take up reconstruction of their homes under Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY) in due course of time. He stated that "owning a house has a huge significance in life. If one has a roof over his head, he can face any situation in life however difficult it maybe, but without it one has to struggle hard with even minor problems in life".

As immediate relief to the affected, he donated a cash amount of Rs 10,000 each to all the victims and also 50 quintals of rice. He also handed out a cash amount of Rs 5000 each to the victims on behalf of MoS for Home, Kiren Rijiju.

Taking the opportunity the villagers expressed their anguish and put forth the difficulties facing them due to repeated fire accidents. One Dr.T Gami on behalf of the villagers submitted a representation to the Minister for conducting a high level inquiry on occurrence of the repeated fire accidents in the same village
