PASIGHAT, Mar 6: In view of the ensuing simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state, the National Service Scheme (NSS) in collaboration with the District Election Office today organized a special drive at the JN College auditorium with a mission to motivate the first timer voters.
Renowned Arm Wrestler and ‘SVEEP District Icon’ Onam Gamno addressed the young voters (students) and highlighted the importance of SVEEP activities. She motivated them to cast their votes. She advised the youths to spread awareness about the special camps among their family members and friends. The essence of democracy lies in voting and the right to exercise one’s franchise forms the cornerstone of our vibrant democracy and therefore the youths should encourage others about compulsory and ethical voting, added the World Champion Gamno in her impressive deliberation.
Earlier, SVEEP Nodal Officer Kesap Tayom informed that the DEO has been organizing various initiatives to attract voters to the polling booth. Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation program, better known as SVEEP, is the flagship program of the Election Commission of India for voter education, spreading voter awareness and promoting voter literacy in India. The East Siang District Administration has been working towards preparing the electors and equipping them with basic knowledge related to the electoral process, stated Tayom.
JNC Vice-Principal Dr Leki Sitang, HoD (Geology) Dr Kento Kadu and Associate Professor Dr DP Panda were present and spoke on the occasion. The trio in their addresses encouraged all to vote and to take informed decision during the elections.
