Governor chairs high-level security review meeting
BORDUMSA, Mar 27: Security along the eastern part of Arunachal has been tightened after suspected militants group opened fire on police at Dirak check gate under Mahadevpur circle of Namsai district in the late evening of March 26 last. Bordering Assam, Dirak gate is one of the gateway of Eastern Arunachal connecting at least three districts—Namsai, Lohit and Anjaw .
‘Incident occurred when Police were on duty at Check post and at around 7:50 pm suspected militants opened fire at least 10 to 12 rounds, however no casualties has been reported,’ informed Sub Inspector, Police station Mahadevpur AN Singh. He further added that the area was cordoned off immediately and massive joint operation of Civil Police, CRPF and Army was intensified in the area.
‘We cannot name as of now who is behind the incident but it is suspected to be some militant group active in the area,’ he added while informing that used cartridge of INSAS Assault Rifles were found during the operation.
According to local sources, one person has been injured in the firing when a bullet hit his leg. If reports are to be believed two motorcycle borne armed miscreants coming from Sitpani Area under Mahadevpur Police station resorted to open firing targeting the unsuspecting security forces and later disappeared taking the advantage of the darkness.
‘The bullets hitting nearby trees and damage to the walls of the check post was evident that the militants had targeted us’, said a Security official.
