RONO HILLS, Nov 23: RGU’s 7th University Badminton League-2019 organised by its Officers’ Club with men’s doubles event for both intra-club category and open category concluded on the evening of November 22 last with student’s team lifting the Open Championship Trophy.
BPEd trainee students duo of Kalung Takhi and Maluk Romin clinched the Men’s Doubles title in a one-sided final match defeating the other students pair of Opang Paron and Ongjong Chemchem with a score of 21-19 & 21-12. In Intra-Club Doubles final, the pair of Dr. David Pertin & Teli Momu emerged as champions after defeating Pitam Jomoh & Dr. Gibji Nimasow in a nail biting final with the score of 17-21, 24-22 & 21-18. The contests were witnessed by a huge gathering of spectators comprising faculty members, officers, research scholars, students and staffs and badminton enthusiasts from nearby areas. In another keenly contested match for the third place in open category, the duo of Dr. Gibji Nimasow & Karli Poyom got the better of Libi Kayi & Rokenso Tega by 13-21, 21-17 & 21-18. Earlier, RGU’s Joint Director of Computer Centre Er. Tsering Dorjee Megeji appreciated the sportsmanship spirit shown by the players and hoped that this platform for giving exposure will grow stronger. 
Patron of the UBL-2019 and Joint Registrar RGU Dr. David Pertin was in all praise for the club for creating an environment and exclusive ambience of sports. Earlier, Chairman of the club Dr. Gibji Nimasow and Club’s Convenor Pitam Jomoh spoke on the occasion.
The best player of the championship award was bagged by Kalung Takhi of the Department of Physical Education. Besides, three special awards were also given away to Pitam Jomoh, Dr. Gibji Nimasow and Yage Riram which were Veteran Player, Stylish Player and Emerging Player of the tournament awards respectively. Besides these, trophies, medals and cash prizes with citations were given away to all players, match officials and volunteers. RGU PR.
