Naharlagun, Nov 4: The State Level Review Meeting on Pre-Conception & Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act, 1994 (PC&PNDT) activities and sensitization of Ultrasonography (USG) Handlers of Papum Pare and Itanagar Capital Complex was conducted today here at the State Training Hall, organized by State Health Society, Naharlagun, National Health Mission and Directorate of Family Welfare.
The meeting was chaired by Director of Health Services Dr. M. Lego and attended by Radiologists, Gynecologists, Surgeons and USG Handlers of Papum Pare and Itanagar Capital Complex, District Medical officer, Capital Complex, Senior officers and Nodal officers of DFW and NHM.  State Nodal Officer (PC&PNDT) Dr. P. Dutta dwelt at length on the rules and regulations of PC&PNDT Act to be followed and on proper usage of USG machines by the USG Handlers. He also reminded that these machines need to be registered by District Medical Officers of concerned districts and validity of such registration is 5 years which needs to be renewed 1 month prior to expiry in order to avoid facing violation. While sharing the information that child sex ratio of Arunachal Pradesh has declined as per 2018-19 census which needs to be checked, he further informed that Dibang Valley has been earmarked as ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padao’ district considering its abrupt decline in child sex ratio. Director Health Services Dr. M. Lego expressed his concern on the decline in state’s child sex ratio and termed PC&PNDT Act as a big issue of late, besides insisting on strict compliance of the laid out rules and regulations of the act. He further exhorted the USG Handlers remain updated and generate wider awareness on importance of the act in order to reach out to maximum targets.
