DOIMUKH, Nov 20: Capital police in coordination with 12th Bn NDRF Doimukh rescued 27 persons stranded In the middle of the Dikrong River on Wednesday evening.
As per the report, information was received around 4:30pm from one Sanjeev Chetry, that few people were trapped in the Dikrong River near old hanging bridge connecting Nirjuli and Doimukh at Dikrong village Nirjuli, due to sudden release of water from Pare Dam.
Accordingly, ASP Sumit Kr. Jha who was reviewing pending cases at Nirjuli Police station directed the police team to reach the spot . Acting on the information, a team rushed to the spot and in the meanwhile, contacted Control Room of 12 Bn NDRF Doimukh for rescue operation. The NDRF team headed by Deputy Commandant 12 Bn reached the spot with their equipment. After an hour long joint operation by Nirjuli Police and 12 Bn NDRF , 27 stranded persons were safely rescued from middle of the Dikrong River . They were family of labourers working in stone quarry, informed Suerintendent of Police, Capital Complex Tumme Amo.
