Discrimination against NE people continues

BOMDILA, Apr 9: During the current difficult time due to the prevailing lockdown when appeals to extend help to each and every citizen of the country are flowing in from all levels including government, the Northeast students currently stranded at Bhuj in Gujarat, however, have been stigmatised due to their mongoloid features.
Stigmatisation and discrimination have reached such alarming levels that these students have even been denied sale of essential commodities including vegetables by the vendors there.
The situation prolonged for a stretch of time until the timely intervention by West Kameng Superintendent of Police Raja Banthia. In a desperate telephone call this forenoon, one Arunachalee student  hailing from Kalaktang Circle of West Kameng district, also one of those now stranded at Bhuj consisting mainly students from Assam narrated the woes to the All West Kameng Students' Union (AWKSU).
The matter was taken up fast by the Circle Officer cum Nodal Officer Covid-19, West Kameng Kesang Wangda with the Deputy Commissioner following which it was referred to the SP for immediate redressal.
SP quickly got in touch with SP Bhuj (Gujarat) Saurabh Tolumbia and apprised him of the situation and appealed for his intervention. The Bhuj SP immediately met the Northeast students in person and assured all possible assistance and also shared his personal mobile number with them. Meanwhile, West Kameng SP through the official channels have asked the people of the district to inform him of any such incident and assured all possible help.
The District Administration and AWKSU have
expressed their heartfelt thanks to both the SPs for their timely intervention and help. DIPRO
