ITANAGAR, Nov 18: A state consultation on “safety of children and minimum standards of care in child care institutions,” organized by Gauhati High Court Juvenile Justice Committee, State Child Protection Scheme and UNICEF was held in Guwahati today. It was held under the chairmanship of Mr. Justice A S Bopanna.
The Consultation meet was attended by  Mr Justicie Arup Kumar Goswami, Judge In-Charge, Administrative Department (JAD), Gauhati High Court, Mrs Justice Rumi Kumari Phukan, Judge, Member, Juvenile Justice Committee, Gauhati High Court, Dr Tushar Rane, Chief of Field Office, UNICEF, Jishnu Barua, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Social Welfare, Govt. of Assam, the Judges of the Gauhati High Court and chairmen of Juvenile Justice Committees of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland and Mizoram in High Courts of respective states, and also senior judicial officials of Assam, Nagaland and Mizoram attended the meet.
From Arunachal Pradesh, Gamli Padu, Commissioner (WCD), and TP Loyi, Director, WCD along with Yame Higio, Member Secretary, State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and representatives of NGOs running child care intuitions in the state, attended the meet.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the Consultation meet, Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court Mr Justice A.S. Bopanna said that this meet is organized prior to the prepared National Fourth Round Table Conference scheduled to be held on December 1 in New Delhi. “Safeguarding the safety and right environment to a child under the institution is the responsibility of the state, he said and stressed the need for child friendly atmosphere in all the child care institutions.
All the states attending the consultation meet made Power Point presentations. The Director of Women & Child Development of TP Loyi made PowerPoint presentation for Arunachal Pradesh on Safety of Children and Minimum Standards of Care in Child Care Institutions (CCIs) in the State.
The consultation meet concluded with remarks by Mrs Justice Rumi Kumari Phukan, Judge, Member, Juvenile Justice Committee – Gauhati High Court for taking concrete steps by the state governments to implement JJ Act, 2015 properly and effectively.
