ITANAGAR, Nov 4: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein today declared the 40th Annual College Day celebration of capital’s Dera Natung Government College open by lighting the Olympic torch in presence of MLA Tali, Jikke Tako and MLA Nampong, Laisam Simai.
Mein while praising the college for raising educational standards in capital, said that education is state government’s  top priority with commitment  to provide quality, affordable and inclusive education to all along with focus on improving health. He appealed students to engage equally in studies, sports and cultural activities to achieve holistic development of personality. He advised them to inculcate reading habit and make best use of the college library and work for preservation of the state’s cultural heritage. While expressing serious concern over drug abuse, DCM appealed all to wage a war against it and make the state free from the menace. In response to a memorandum submitted by the college students’ union, he assured to look into their demands. 
Earlier, Mein also made house-wise and NCC parade inspection which was followed by display of parade by NCC contingent and house troopers. The football competition was kicked-off by him and students of the college presented a mesmerizing mega cultural dance show.
