ITANAGAR, Dec 29: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has vehemently condemned the Uttar Pradesh Police for manhandling AICC General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Saturday last by grabbing her neck and pushing her to the ground while she was on her way to visit the sick wife of a former IPS officer.
Reacting to the rough treatment meted out by UP police, APCC in a press release issued today said that the affair has exposed the autocratic and assaultive nature of the Yogi Adityanath government. He is using repression and violence to suppress the voice of the opposition and violence against women in politics have become rampant under the BJP regime which feels wary of Priyanka Gandhi, the release said. In UP, women are not only victims of rape and acid attacks but continue to encounter hostility and violence of unimaginable forms, the release added.
Alleging that Yogi has failed to run a pro-people government, APCC has demanded its dismissal.
