ITANAGAR, Apr 12:Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein on Thursday said the opposition Congress party at the Centre has let down the people of the country especially Arunachal Pradesh by disrupting Parliament proceedings at a time when the central government is trying to pass bills to improve connectivity and infrastructure especially for the state.
Urging the opposition party to play responsible and constructive politics , Mein condemned the Congress MPs for holding Parliament to ransom while saying that their moves not only goes against democracy but is also repulsive and disrespectful action towards Parliament.
Mein’s remarks came during the 12-hour hunger strike organized by the state Bharatiya Janata Party to protest against continuous disruption of Parliament session by Congress MPs at Tennis court, Indira Gandhi Park today. Seniors BJP leaders, Ministers, MLAs, Youth and Mahila Morcha including staffers also joined the fast and shouted slogans against the Congress leaders.
Pointing out that citizens of the country want collaborative parliamentary democracy and not confrontationist politics, State BJP, General Secretary, Tapir Gao in his address stated that issues cannot be resolved by stalling and resorting to wayward means to press their demands.
Stating that ruling BJP party is ready for positive discussion and debates, he however said that the party won’t tolerate undemocratic mode of approach. Gao urged the opposition leaders to understand their responsibilities towards the electorate and the country.
He requested the Congress MPs to approach with productive ways of discussion to resolve issues of larger concern rather than resorting to such unjustified method.
Conveying his annoyance over the development, Minister for Land management & UD, Nabam Rebia suggested that instead of stalling the session, the opposition MPs should calmly debate, discuss the issues amicably considering the fact that the house was supposed to pass few key bills to bring economic reforms.
Hoping that Parliament session would be allowed to function which has not been able to transact any business since last many days due to unnecessary interruption, Education Minister, Honchun Ngandam urged the opposition leaders to maintain decorum and allow the house to function properly like a genuine opposition party.
Summing up , MLA, Tamar Murtem accused the Congress leaders for abusing our legislative system and democracy and regretted that because of disruptions by Congress leaders few important bills related to social upliftment could not be passed.
During the day long fast many senior leaders, MLAs, Ministers including heads of frontal wings of Mahila, Yuva, and ST Morcha spoke on the occasion. In their speech they raised their strong opposition towards the development and urged the Congress MPs to adhere to parliamentary norms and respect constitutional framework.
The day long protest cum hunger protect was initiated under the banner of Capital complex BJP unit under the supervision of its president, Tarh Soping.
