AALO, Aug 20: State Legislative Assembly Speaker Pasang Dorjee Sona on Tuesday visited the De-addiction-cum-Rehabilitation Centre here at Hiker Gumin, Aalo and interacted with the management.
Established in 2014 by the Mother’s Vision, a local NGO working for addiction free society, the centre provides De-addiction-cum-Rehabilitation programme for drug, alcohol and other addictions. Altogether 23 are undergoing De-addiction-cum-Rehabilitation programme at the centre.
While interacting with the management, Sona lauded them for extending yeoman services to the needy people who are under the clutches of drug menace.
Stating that drug abuse is one of the most dangerous social menaces, the Speaker suggested the Mother’s Vision also to focus on preventive measures apart from carrying out De-addiction-cum-Rehabilitation programme.
Also, adding that such de-addiction centre needs everyone’s support, the Speaker assured to see what he can do from his side. For immediate help he announced to contribute some amount for the centre.
Through a PowerPoint Presentation, Kennedy Bagra, who himself was once an addict for two decades, gave a detailed overview on how the centre operates. He highlighted on some of the important issues concerning drug addiction, its causes and future complicacies.
Informing that the centre is being run on self help basis and there is no other source or help, Bagra requested the Speaker to see if he can help from the government level.  
Earlier, Jumde Yomgam Gamlin, Chairperson, highlighted about the Mother’s Vision and its movement against drug abuse. She informed out of 70 clients discharged so far, 26 are sober, 19 relapsed and rest are out of reach. She however, said that with their constant awareness programme and other activities people having addiction problems from across the state are coming to the centre for help.

The Speaker also met the youths who are undergoing “100 days” De-addiction-cum-Rehabilitation programme.
Earlier, in the morning, the Speaker attended a public meeting at Hone village under Shi-Yomi district. While addressing the gathering, the Speaker assured to fulfill the commitment he made during the election. He however suggested the youths of area to work in unison for overall development.
Stressing on accountability and transparency, Sona called upon the youths of area to help in maintaining the quality of work of various schemes and projects.
The public of five villages jointly submitted a memorandum to the Speaker for construction of volleyball ground in all the five villages. Speaker Media Cell
