PASIGHAT, Dec 4: According to DDMO source, a major fire incident was reported in Pasighat market on Monday, where flames had engulfed 34 grocery/vegetable vendors.
According to East Siang Superintendent of Police, Prashant Gautam who thoroughly witnessed and investigated the matter has said that DDMO’s information was wrong and further claimed that it was actually 20 shops not 34. Gautam also said that timely arrival of the fire brigade saved the adjoining shops from the spreading fire on the unfortunate night. Concerted effort by fire brigade managed to douse the flame after two hours.
The SP further informed that he had also revisited the spot today to confirm the number of shops gutted and opined once again that the timely arrival of fire fighters averted huge losses. While reviewing the preventive measures today in the fire control station, he directed the officials to keep all vehicles on good, equipped and ready condition, especially during windy/winter season when chances of fire accident are more at Pasighat and adjoining areas. Firemen receive uncertain call from helpless to stop fire faster and render services taking own life in risk and therefore they must be appreciated by one and all, said Gautam. He assured to introduce two additional fire service lines (mobile phones) to fire control room for 24x7 service in public interest.
