ITANAGAR, Mar 21: In a truly remarkable act towards the protection and preservation of wildlife, Gum Tayeng, Dambuk MLA, on Wednesday rescued and released a Soft Shelled turtle back into its natural habitat at Dibang River.

Reportedly, Soft Shelled turtle weighing around 2.5-3kg was captured alive by the children using local made harpoons from nearby streams at Bomjir.  The MLA, who was visiting Dambuk for some official function, spotted the kids carrying the live turtle and called them and rescued the animal after paying some amount.

MLA, who always advocates for protection and preservation of wildlife in the area, strongly appealed the local people especially youths of area not to kill wildlife. She also advised the kids not to repeat such act in future.

Indeed it was a heart touching moment to see the lovely little creature crawl so fast to reach the river (where it belongs) and to live happily ever after, she said happily.

The Soft shelled turtles are some of the most recognized turtles in the world and arguably some of the most unique.
