ITANAGAR, Apr 11: Reacting to the press statement by All Yobin Students Union (AYSU) demanding cancellation of participation of non- locals in Panchayati Raj system as well as objecting participation of Assam Rifles Ex-servicemen families in Vijayanagr, under Changlang  district, Gorkha Development Society (GDS) has  expressed it resentment  and submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister.

Strongly condemning the statement, Gorkha Development Society  asserted that  unaware of the facts, the said union  is trying  to mislead the government and the people.

Before going to the media one has to know about the deep rooted historical facts and evidence regarding the presence, sacrifices and involvement of Ex-Assam Rifles families in Vijayanagar and their participation in Panchayati Raj  system  since many decades, it added.

The society clarified that Pachayati Raj was   introduced in Vijayanagr  since 1975 and Lal Bir Gurung an Ex-Assam Rifles was the first ASM or Panch Pradhan of Vijaynagar circle and he remained in  the same post till 1980.However after a gap, Government of Arunachal re-introduced the three-tier Panchayati Raj system  in 2003 and subsequently at Vijaynagar, two seats each for Anchal Samiti  Member (ASM) was allotted for both Yobin and Gorkha communities.

Meanwhile, in its representation, GDS has sought the attention of the CM and urged the government not to come under the influence of such misleading reports that may cause damage to both the peace loving communities living in the area since many decades.

‘Such negative claim is not a healthy sign for both the communities and for the Vijayanagr circle which is already backward in the 21st century,’ the society asserted.
