GUWAHATI/ITANAGAR, Mar 26: Smoke emanated in one of AC coaches of the Naharlagun-Guwahati (Donyi Polo Express) this morning while returning to Naharlagun. However, no injuries or casualties have been reported so far. According to sources, the smell of smoke coming from B3 (Air condition coach) was spotted by the passengers at Rangapara Railway station in Sonitpur, but they undermined it as there was no sighting of flame.
However, after reaching Gohpur as the smoke grew stronger, passengers alerted the railway staff who then stopped the train at Gohpur station and separated the bogie from the rest of the train and shifted passengers to another safer coach. When contacted, Gohpur Railway Station Master, Vivek Ranjan while confirming about the incident told this daily that they had to stop the train at Gohpur station for the safety of passengers and are now ascertaining the cause of the smoke. He also informed that while there was smoke coming from the coach, there was no signs of flame. Meanwhile, passengers complained that for a minor detachment of the coach, they had to wait for hours at Gohpur station.
