ITANAGAR, May 3:Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Papumpare organized a two day skill training programme for “pig farmer’s friend service providers” in collaboration with North - East initiative Development Agency (NEIDA) at Karsingsa. A total of 31 service providers of Doimuk, Kimin, Yazali, Kakoi and Yaachuli areas were trained during the programme.

During the technical session, Dr. Perme through powerpoint presentation and video shows, extensively dealt on pig nutrition. He noted that as the government is gearing-up for an organic state, the importance of use of locally available feed resources has major role to play in the days to come. He emphasized the need for cultivation of local feed and fodders for feeding their pigs as to minimize the cost of production.

Dr. S Achariya, Veterinary Officer, Central Pig Breeding Farm, Deptt. of AHV & DD gave an over view on commonly occurring pig diseases and suggested their preventive & control measures. Dr. Nabam Gama, Farm Manager KVK, Papum Pare highlighted improved managemental practices on pig husbandry, important point of consideration for sty construction and hygienic maintainance for a healthy pig stock.

During the practical session of the training programme, the trainees were exposed to first hand information on first aid services-viz. scientific feeding and management, handling, restraining, wound dressing and castration at Central Pig Breeding Farm, Karsingsa.
