ITANAGAR, Jan 18: The Capital Police have detained six persons in connection with illegal gambling activities from a weekly market, Hollongi here on Saturday.
A well-planned surprise raid led by SDPO, Itanagar Kamdam Sikom was made after the police station received several complaints and information from the public regarding the gambling activities which includes tombola and dice creating a nuisance in the area.
A team of police personnel in civil dresses caught a total of six persons viz five males and 1 female and some cash along with gambling items were seized during the raid.
While talking to media persons in his office, Sikom said that many a time prior warnings were given earlier to stop illegal gambling activities in the weekly market. “We conducted a surprise raid today in the morning and apprehended the organizers,” he said while informing that a cash amount of Rs 57,590 along with some gambling items was seized.”
Sikom said that a case has been registered under section 4 of IPC and Arunachal Pradesh Gambling (Prohibition) Act, 2012 against the detainees.
Meanwhile, he has requested the city dwellers to avoid any activities which is against the law and cautioned everyone of strong action taken otherwise.
