ITANAGAR, Nov 17: In a major breakthrough, the Special Investigation Team(SIT) comprising of Inspector N.Lali & Inspector   P.Nikang led by SP SIT Dr. Navdeep Singh Brar has arrested one Ranjan Bikash Borgohain @ Bikash @ Ramen Barua r/o Sukapa Nagar, Moranhat, Dibrugarh Assam  who  has  claimed himself to be a senior commander of ULFA-I.
Ranjan Bikash Borgohain is alleged to be involved in extorting money from high profile politicians from North East including Arunachal Pradesh. Letter addressed to politicians of various parties   on the letterhead of ULFA with signatures of Drishti Rajkhowa Deputy Commander in chief ULFA-I was recovered from him. Two diaries having personal details i.e address, phone numbers of prominent political figures, 5 Debit/ Credit cards of various banks, and 3 mobile phones were seized from him. Earlier,  an FIR no 8/2019 U/S 384, 385, 506, 511 IPC R/W section 10 UAP Act 1967 was registered in C.B police station of SIT. After sustained efforts and raids in Delhi, Dibrugarh, and Guwahati over a period of one month, Borgohain was finally tracked and arrested. He was produced in court and remanded a 7-day police custody.
During interrogation it was revealed that he was earlier arrested by Delhi Police for threatening & extortion charges and sent to Tihar jail. His link to ULFA dates back to 1985 and   had   contributed to the organization by recruiting men and holding  important ranks in the outfit.   PRO APP
