BOMDILA, Apr 17:  Union Minister of State for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Giriraj Singh in his maiden visit to the district interacted with the weavers and HoDs at Dirang Norphel Retreat on Sunday last.

Interacting with the around sixty weavers of Dirang administrative unit, the Minister was all praises for the beautifully hand woven handloom products that was on display but urged to adopt modern technology to boost the production and income as well.

‘Using the solar operated power looms and the improved fly shuttle looms with jacquard machine will go a long way in increasing your products and generating income,’ he said.

Divulging the reason behind his visit to the state, Singh said that his ministry is exploring avenues for taking up Micro Small and Medium Enterprises in the state. ‘Arunachal has rich potentialities and there is a lot of scope for the enterprises. Among others, the state could be promoted as Eco-Organic destination,’ he said.

Expressing his dismay over the inflated rate of cocoon procured from the neighbouring state of Assam, he suggested for procuring the same from Tripura and to open a Cocoon Bank in the district.

Visibly elated after visiting the private weaving units in Dirang Basti, the Minister assured all help from his ministry.

Later, the Minister accompanied by the local Legislator cum Parliamentary Secretary H& FW Phurpa Tsering, Chief Secretary Shakuntala D Gamlin, Media Advisor to GoI Anand Sharma, Special Secretary IT cum DC Itanagar capital complex Prince Dhawan, SP PN Khrimey, ADC Dirang and HoDs from Bomdila and Dirang visited Chug village.

Chief Secretary Gamlin identified land for construction of a University and an Airport at Chug valley famed for its scenic beauty and vast plain lands. DIPRO
