PANGIN, Apr 26:  A meeting-cum-workshop on digital payments was heldon Wednesday at Pangin under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Siang District, Rahul Singh which was attended by all the HoDs, administrative officers, PRI members, representatives from the bank, local shopkeepers and businessmen.

The DC in his address stated that this was the first in the series of such meetings which would be held subsequently in other parts of the district to promote and also generate awareness on digital payments. Seeking close cooperation and active participation from all present in creating further awareness and information dissemination, he called upon them to be the agents for successful implementation of the various schemes initiated by the government for the betterment of public.

Recognizing the importance of digital payments and cashless transactions more importantly in the wake of demonetisation and the prevailing problem of severe cash crunch, he said that this programme would be highly beneficial for the general public and needs to be implemented in letter and spirit at the earliest. In order to achieve better implementation, proactive measures would also be taken for opening of accounts and linking of Aadhar number through setting up of financial literacy camps in all the villages of the district with the help of local admin officers and PRI members. Directives were given to the bank representatives to make available POS machines to the shopkeepers at the earliest. Account opening kits were also to be immediately dispensed.

A detailed and informative power point presentation on digital payments was given by CO Indira Riba where she discussed in detail about the objectives of demonetisation, various incentives being provided by GoI to promote digital payments, advantages and also different ways of making cashless transactions like Unified Payment Interface (UPI), Unstructured supplementary service data (USSD), internet banking, usage of POS machines, different kinds of e-wallets etc along with live demonstration, demonstrative videos on the same followed by an interactive session where all queries of the participants were addressed.
