NAHARLAGUN, Jan 6: The Tagin community residing in the capital complex today celebrated the Si Donyi festival with traditional fervor at Naharlagun, near the helipad.
Chairman, Department of Indigenous Affairs, Nabam Atum who attended as guest of honour urged the younger generation to preserve their cultural heritage.
‘Due to advent of modernization our age old culture handed down by ancestors is being lost day by day,’ he said calling upon the youths to protect and preserve their culture.
Atum also urged the upcoming generation to research their valuable culture and preserve it through written form.
The Mishing of Assam also believes in Donyi-poloism like Tani groups and history reveals that all are sons of Abo Tani, said Chief of Mishing Autonomous Council, Paramananda Chayengia who attended as chief guest.
Stressing on the importance of Si Donyi festival, he asked the gathering to preserve their identity and culture stating ‘loss of identity is loss of culture.’
He also advised for connecting the descendents of Abo Tani through research and festival and asserted and ‘if efforts are made then a common Tani language can be developed.’
Earlier, the festival celebration committee Vice Chairman Tuter Nima briefed about the festival and secretary Tameng Kamsar read out the mythology. Dr Sunil Mohanty, Prant pracharak RSS Arunachal, Shekhar Kelkar, prant seva pramukh were among those present.
