ITANAGAR, Mar 24: Two young shuttlers of Arunachal Pradesh namely Pinki Karki (19) and Yania Taring (19) have qualified to compete in the Yonex Sunrise India Open 2017 (Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Superseries) to be played at the Siri Fort Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.

Organized by the Badminton Association of India (BAI), the India Open (officially titled as the Yonex-Sunrise India Open) is an annual badminton event which has been held in India since 2008. The competition this year would be played from March 28 to April 2 next.

Competing in the Women’s doubles category, the pair of Pinky and Yania will be facing the Indonesian pair of Cynthiana Shara Ayunidha and Debora Rumate Vehrenica in the first round on March 28 next.

Only a handful of players from North East have qualified for the India Open, Pinki and Yania being two of them.

Apart from top Indian players like World No 5 (female) PV Sindhu, former World No 1 (female) Saina Nehwal from India the Yonex Sunrise India Open would also see ace shuttles like Lee Chong Wei (World No 1 Male) from Malaysia and Carolina Marin (World No 2 female) from Spain etc are participating in the coveted competition among others.

One, Tania Yasap of Arunachal would also be participating in the tourney as Technical Official.

The team is led by team coach cum manager Dilip Gurung.

Meanwhile, Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) president Techi Rotu, joint secretary Penya Bagra and Sports Authority of Arunachal chairman Bamang Tago while congratulating the players for qualifying have also wished them success for the tournament.
