ITANAGAR, Dec 27: A one-day “Demonstration programme on the Ergonomically Developed Ladder and Backpack for load carrying in Sherpa mode” was organized by the Department of Agricultural Engineering, NERIST at Chullyu Village, Yazali Circle, Lower Subansiri district.
At least 25 persons participated in the demonstration which was sponsored by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) through AICRP on ESA, NERIST Centre, Nirjuli. The demonstration was conducted on the orange farm of a progressive farmer, Bengia Tassam. In his address, Agricultural Sector Assistant, Yazali Circle Taw Tachi urged farmers to adopt the advanced ladder equipment for effective harvesting of organic oranges in their villages. The farmers praised the women-friendly ladder as it increases the plucking rate and reduces fruit loss because it has a continuous unloading system connected at the top of the ladder. They also praised the backpack developed for load-carrying which will now allow carrying more quantities of oranges from the fields to the markets.
