KHONSA, May 21:A Sena Medal awardee of the 6th Assam Regiment, Naik Subidar Wanghian Lowang, who had recently returned after Peacekeeping duties in Lebanon passed away today.

A permanent resident of Mokttowa village under Dadam administrative circle, Tirap, he died early this morning due to heart stroke.

Lowang was a part of surveillance operation in high altitude terrain in Reasi, J&K on 14th August, 2009 when his team came under heavy automatic fire from terrorists from a dominating height. Displaying initiative of highest order, he retaliated and closed onto the terrorists and killed one terrorist. For his brave act beyond the call of duty, he was awarded the Sena Medal (Gallantry).

In a condolence message to the bereaved family, the 56-Khonsa West MLA  Tirong Aboh expressed shocked over the  sudden death of the young and brave Indian Army and termed it a great loss for the Nocte Community in particular and the nation as a whole. Aboh assured all possible help from his side to the bereaved family and his children.
