ITANAGAR, Sep 21: The two-day national seminar on Understanding Tribes of Northeast India: Issues and Challenges organized by the Department of Anthropology, Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) concluded today.
Dr. Tayek Talom, Director, Higher and Technical Education, stressed the importance of such  seminars in eradicating the issues faced by tribal community due to our physiological difference.
Prof. Tamo Mibang, Former Vice-Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) talked about tribal development and transformation.
He mentioned that although the tribal people in the present era are no more the tribals of yesteryears but are far behind in this race of advancement as various issues related to the development of tribal people are still prevalent.
Prof. Sarit Kumar Chaudhuri, Director, IGRMS, Bhopal, and chairperson of the valedictory session stressed the need for understanding of tribes and their problems across the country.
He observed that such kind of academic discourse will definitely help in understanding the plights and issues of the issues, challenges, and growth of the tribal society.
Earlier, Dr. N.T. Rikam, Principal, and Patron of the seminar in his message congratulated the Department of Anthropology for organizing a national seminar within a year of its establishment in the college.
The seminar saw 60 research papers divided into 12 technical sessions spanning over two days. A total of 301participants comprising faculty members, research scholars, and students participated in the seminar.
The workshop was conducted in collaboration with Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS), Bhopal, Indian Council of Social Science Research-North Eastern Regional Centre (ICSSR-NERC), Shillong, Centre for Research & Documentation, Ama-Aba Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd., Ziro, and Arunachal Anthropological Forum (AAF), Doimukh.
