PASIGHAT/ YUPIA, Sep 25: As part of the month-long School Safety and Community Awareness Programme at Circle Level in East Siang district, mock drills on self-safe evacuation and training on safety measures is currently on in the schools of the district. 
Safety Audit Team of the District Disaster Management Authority visited St. Thomas School, Mount Carmel School and Siang Royal Academy on Thursday last and imparted training on safety measures. Earlier they also conducted mock drills at Siang Model Higher Secondary School and Green Valley Residential School on Wednesday with plans for covering all Government and Private Schools in the district. The main focus of the programme is to sensitize the people, especially women and school going children on life saving techniques/practices to be observed during disasters,  DDMO G. Tsomu informed.
Meanwhile, Department of Disaster Management, Yupia in collaboration with 12th BN NDRF conducted a similar School Safety Programme on Disaster Management at Government Higher Secondary School, Kimin wherein students, teachers and staff of the school were enlightened about life-saving techniques and safety measures through practical demonstrations by the NDRF team led by Inspector Vivek Kumar.
Circle Officer, Kimin Khoda Rakhi while interacting with the students advised them to take maximum benefits of the training to help oneself and others during emergencies. She also requested the school authority to review safety measures by conducting periodical safety drills and said that she will personally evaluate such drills.
