ITANAGAR, Jan 23: Four persons received non-life threatening injuries and a person is stated to be in serious condition when a state-owned transport bus with suspected brake failure carrying about 60 students of Kendriya Vidyalaya-II, Chimpu met with an accident here at Chandranagar area.
Police quoting the driver of the bus said, ‘while coming down the slope near the Chandranagar Bridge, the driver allegedly lost control over the vehicle due to an unknown mechanical defect in the braking system.’
However, to avoid colliding with the other vehicles and to save children on board, the driver rammed the bus in the Chandanagar bridge side wall thereby averting a potential mishap.
Before coming to a halt, the bus mowed down a Tata Sumo, a Maruti Car and a Scooter in its way wherein four people sustained minor injuries and one person received grievous head injuries. 
The person with serious injuries has been identified as Jumli Likar of Kamba, West Siang district. However, students in the bus and drivers of cars escaped unhurt with minor injuries.
Itanagar Police station Officer In-charge, Tabi Bage informed that the APST bus bearing registration NO- ARX 0449 was on its way to Ganga to drop students of KV-II in various locations of the city.
“ Out of the five injured,  4 people were discharged after medication at RK Mission, Hospital and the person with severe head injuries, have been referred to GNRC Guwahati for further treatment,” Bage said.
A case has been registered vide Itanagar Police Station Case No-20/19 u/s-279, 338 IPC and the driver of the bus, identified as A Biswas is kept under custody for further questioning,  Bage further added.
