Tawang, May 29: A sales counter of Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) under the Department of Agriculture was inaugurated on Friday near DC office here in the township by Tawang MLA Tsering Tashi.
The main objective of the counter is to encourage the local farmers to grow more vegetables and provide them with a regular market to sell their produce. Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman APMC Tawang Sang Phuntsok, SP B. Kamduk, DAO Lobsang Zimba and other officers were present during the inauguration. APMC Tawang has been active in procuring locally available vegetables from the farmers’ fields and selling them at government-approved rates during the lockdown.
The MLA appreciated the APMC and Department of Agriculture for providing locally grown fresh organic vegetables to the denizens of Tawang during the lockdown and suggested to continue the activity in a sustainable manner.
DC opined for undertaking further diversified activities like selling of seedlings of ornamental plants, fruit plants, vegetable seeds etc. through this sales counter for greater interest of the district’s farming community.
APMC Tawang has tasted commercial success and so far procured and sold 145.75 quintals of vegetables and potatoes with earnings of Rs 2,56,139 on an investment of Rs 2,22,200. DIPRO
