Niglok Aug 13: Sainik School at Niglok in East Siang district, the only one of its kind in Arunachal Pradesh as of now, is still in the struggling stage even after a year of its inception.
The school which started operations in August 2018 has neither its own building nor playgrounds for recreational and physical activities of cadets and is being run in the building of a defunct Industrial Growth Center under a temporary MoU for three years only, of which one year had already passed. There is no accommodation facilities for teachers and other staff in the school premises and although it is mandatory to have facilities such as swimming pool, horse-riding club and sports in a Sainik School, no such facilities are available here which is affecting the performance of students.
“How will they compete with the students of other Sainik Schools when they don’t have adequate facilities for overall personality development,” rued a parent.
It is worth mentioning that currently the second batch with a total of 120 students are undergoing courses and the third batch will be joining next year for which online application process is underway. This has raised eyebrows as to when even 60 students cannot be accommodated properly, how can 180 students continue in this make-shift structure. Although the site for Sainik School had been allotted for developing campus, no construction work has started yet and the parents are visibly unhappy with the school authorities for inadequate facilities.
Principal Lt Commander Amit Kumar Dutt said that he had recently written to the state government and met the Governor in this regard and the Director of Elementary Education had also assured to release fund as soon as possible. He also informed that the school has bagged the Best Discipline Group Award during the East Zone Sports Meet held at Imphal last month where six Sainik Schools participated.
