ITANAGAR, Mar 7: The first chief engineer of the state and founder of the Rural Works Department (RWD), TK Mukherjee passed away at the age of 85 years at his residence on February 6 morning in Kolkata after a brief illness.
Mukherjee joined the Government of Arunachal Pradesh in 1965 as Assistant Engineer and later promoted as Regional Engineer (EE) in the department of Agriculture. He created Rural Works Department after bifurcation from Agriculture in the year 1978-79. Later he became the first chief engineer of the department in the year 1980. He served the state of Arunachal Pradesh for more than 28 years and established the works department which has since been undertaking the rural infrastructure and associated works. He is survived by wife, daughter and two grand children.
A condolence meeting was convened by the Rural Works Department to pay rich tribute to Late Mukherjee and a message has been sent to his aggrieved family.
