RUKSIN, Jun 13:Following widespread panic in Ruksin and its surrounding areas, after rumours of a failed kidnapping attempt of a 5- year old Arunachalee girl at Ruksin on June 12 last, by a mentally unstable Assamese man, had gone viral on social media, Ruksin Police today clarified on the incident.

According to the Officer in-charge, L Ori, the incident had occurred near Ruksin Pale Bazar and Jonai border during the Tuesday market, when the alleged person who is said to be mentally unsound grabbed a five-year-old Mishing girl, who was selling vegetables and is a Jonai native; and tried to take her away.

“But the man was stopped by onlookers when the girl screamed for help and the mob thrashed the man before handing him over to Ruksin Police personnel that were present nearby,” Ori said.

"Later, the man was sent to the nearest hospital as he had sustained serious injury. We tried talking to him and asked for his name but was unsuccessful,” he added.

Since, the exact location of the incident occurred at Jonai Tuesday Market, the man was handed over to the Jonai Police Station and the case will be investigated by them, informed the OC.

However, the fact cannot be denied that cases of child kidnapping is increasing in an alarming rate and people have to be alert too and coordinate with the police force, Ori stressed.
