ITANAGAR, Oct 19: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) today participated in the State Convention on Right to Information (RTI) Act 2005 cum 13th Foundation Day celebration of the Arunachal Pradesh Information Commission here at the Dorjee Khandu Auditorium of State Assembly.
Governor while deliberating on the virtues of RTI, said that it aims to combat corruption, protect fundamental rights, prevent human rights violations, provide exigency in getting justice, eliminate administrative procrastination and prevent distortion of procedures & provisions. It encourages governments to ensure administrative honesty through effective compliance laid out in the Act through voluntary disclosures. Brushing away apprehensions of antagonists that RTI will hamper frank file noting, bold administrative recommendations and abet play-safe administrative approach, Governor said that if government officials maintain transparency, accountability and honesty in their working, there is nothing to fear. Sharing his experience as a law luminary, he advised the Commission to help iron out vague answers, couching & part replies, sub-quality information and shifting of onus on RTI applications. Complimenting the officials of the State Information Commission on its 13thFoundation Day, he reposed confidence that they will continue to render services in a most sincere and dedicated manner. 
State Chief Information Commissioner, Dr. Joram Begi and State Information Commissioner Goto Ete briefed about the implementation of RTI Act 2005 in Arunachal Pradesh. Chief Information Commissioner, Assam, Himangshu Sekhar Das, IAS (Retd.), State Information Commissioner Leki Phuntso, former SCICs Nyodek Yonggam & Y.D. Thongchi, MLAs, Lok Ayukta members, representatives from educational institutes, RTI activities and students were present on the occasion. PRO Raj Bhavan
