BOMDILA, Nov 3: Barely a day after Chief Minister Pema Khandu launched the ‘Arunachal Tourist Police’ and ‘Arunachal Suraksha App’ to create sense of security amongst the common people and tourists, hundreds of Jawans belonging to the 2nd Arunachal Scout Battalion ran amok here this morning and vandalized the Police Station including assaulting the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, West Kameng.
Reportedly, on November 2, in the ongoing Buddha Mahotsava festival celebration ground, two jawans of the Arunachal Scout Battalion indentified as Chino Sonam and John Samyor under the influence of alcohol started arguing with civil police on duty at the venue. It was also reported they assaulted the Officer In-charge of the police station, Bomdila. To control the situation, civil police detained the two jawans and after medical examination released them the same night.
However, today about three hundred jawans of the Arunachal Scout Battalion  led by Commandant (Col.)  FB Firdaus and Major Kaushik Roy forcefully entered  and vandalized the police station as well as damaged several equipment in retaliation. Many civil police and IRBN personnel were injured during the scuffle.
‘The CO came with armed personnel and vehicles mounted with weapons. They hurled abuses at me and pointed weapon at the SP and used unparliamentary words against civil authorities. He (Army officer) was present at the spot when his men were on rampage destroying the police station and assaulting policemen,’ said Deputy Commissioner West Kameng, Dr. Sonal Swaroop while speaking to this daily.
The DC who sustained injury during the stone pelting informed that the rogue jawans damaged police vehicle, PWD building, snatched police ammunition and physically assaulted a civilian bystander in the process.
It has been reported by Additional SP, that Arunachal Scouts in 2014 also did display show of criminal force in Bomdila market by marching with their weapons and threatening the entire denizens of the town.
However, locals informed that the brawl started after the said jawans under the influence of alcohol were eve teasing women in the festival ground and when civil police intervened they started arguing with Police personnel on duty.
Meanwhile, sources informed this daily that an emergency meeting off all Community Based Organizations of West Kameng was held today and the house jointly condemned the assault on the DC and SP. A protest rally against the Arunachal Scout Battalion deployed in Bomdila will be carried out on November 5 next. The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) team led by AGS(Admin) Ajit Sidisow will participate in the rally in support of the district administration.
