Rono Hills, Sep 22: The week-long Hindi Saptah celebration organised by the Hindi Cell of Rajiv Gandhi University concluded here on Saturday last with a prize distribution-cum-valedictory function held at the main auditorium.
Deputy Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Tesam Pongte was the Chief Guest, RGU Vice Chancellor Professor Saket Kushwaha  Function President and  Member of the Central Advisor Board, Child & Adolescent Labour, Ministry of Labour and Employment, GoI Tai Tagak was the Guest of Honour. Pongte opined that Hindi is not a threat to the tribal dialects and instead helps in communication between different tribes, thereby uniting people as true Indians. Appreciating RGU for taking the initiative of promoting Hindi, he also spoke about the benefits of knowing Hindi language in the context of a multi-linguistic Indian society. Tagak while speaking on the occasion, cited the example of a tribe in the state successfully developing a script which is necessary for preserving the indigenous language, adding that other tribes should also strive for inventing their own scripts which would help language preservation and promotion. RGU VC said that since language is also important for national identity, it’s better to promote national language Hindi while also preserving the mother tongue.
During the week-long observation from September 14-21, various Hindi literary and cultural competitions were organised where students and staff members representing seven houses  namely Gumto, Emchi, Rono, Amba, Huto, Tigdo and Midpu Houses participated in painting, extempore speech, debate, essay writing,  poetry, solo song, duet dance and group dance etc.
In the valedictory function, prizes were distributed to the winners and Emchi House won the Best House prize. RGU PR
