Rono Hills, Apr 29: The 2nd edition of THoR Open Badminton Championship-2019 organised jointly by Boarders of Tirap Halls of Residence (THoR) and Officers’ Club RGU (OCRGU) concluded on April 28 evening.
The reigning champion pair, post graduate student duo of Tanil Tabang and Charu Toko retained the men’s doubles title this time too in a thrilling three-setter final match edging past the pair of Dr. David Pertin and Karli Poyom with 21-19, 20-21 & 21-17. In this category 18 teams participated from four pools.
In the mixed doubles competition, 10 teams competed from two pools and in another nail biting mixed doubles final, the pair of Kenli Riram & Guniya Dele emerged as champions by defeating Modak Kadu & Ashaya Umbrey, which was witnessed by a huge gathering of spectators.
Earlier, former Vice-President of AAPSU Happy Toko inaugurated the championship as chief guest on April 25. RGU’s Junior Technical Officer and Convenor of OCRGU Pitam Jomoh and Assistant Professor of Physics Dr. H. Shanjit Singh gave away the trophies, medals and cash prizes with citations to all the players, match officials and volunteers.
In the special category awards, the Best Player of the Tournament Award went to Libi Kayi, while the Upcoming Player Award was bagged by Samuel C. Ronrang and Stylish Player Award went to Dr. Gibji Nimasow.
A total of 46 shuttlers participated in the championship which comprised RGU’s faculty members, officers, research scholars and post graduate students. RGU Press Release
