RONO HILLS, Nov 20: Rajiv Gandhi University’s 7th University Badminton League-2019 was inaugurated by its Joint Registrar Kurian Thomas amidst a huge gathering of sports enthusiasts and badminton diehards on the evening of November 19 last here at the university’s main auditorium.
The tournament is being organised by RGU Officers’ Club, which is a member affiliate of Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) and there will be men’s doubles section for both intra-club and open categories. Joint Registrar who was also the Chief Guest lauded the club and its effort in promoting badminton. Founding chairman of the club and patron of UBL-2019 Dr. David Pertin exhorted the players to play the game with true sportsmanship spirit. Earlier, Chairman of the club Dr. Gibji Nimasow presented a brief note on the championship, while organising committee member Yage Riram gave the welcome speech. A total of 30 players are participating in men’s doubles comprising of faculty members, administrators, research scholars, postgraduate and undergraduate students in the 20-56 years age group. Finals will be played on November 22 and the winners, runners-up and 2nd runners-up will receive cash prizes, trophies and citations, besides bagging sponsorships by the club to participate in ASBA organised tournaments. 
In the intra-club doubles competition, the pairs of Dr. David Pertin-Teli Momu and Dr. Gibji Nimasow-Pitam Jomoh made it to the finals getting better of the pairs of Hage Kojee-Pura Deilyang and Dr. K. Rojeet Singh-Terge Sora respectively in semi-finals. League matches of the open category amongst the teams divided into 2 pools will be completed by November 21. RGU PR
