Rono Hills, Oct 20: Final of the 4th University Soccer League (USL)-2019 was drawn today with RGU’s Department of Physical Education and Science United clinching berths.
In the first semifinal, Department of Physical Education, who are also the defending champions edged past Department of Commerce played here at Ground No. 1 with a margin of 3-2. Scores of soccer lovers enjoyed a classy match where there was an equal contest in the first half with both teams scoring a goal each. After lemon break however, the game swung in favour of the defending champions. The second semifinal saw Science United dominating proceedings against their equally formidable opponent of an experienced RGU Research Scholar team wherein the former won by 2-1 and made history repeating itself as that of the 2nd edition of USL-2017 when the final was also played between Science United and Physical Education. The Man of the Match awards were given away by Joint Registrar of RGU, Dr. David Pertin. Although the final promises to be an absorbing one with both teams possessing the potential to lift trophy, Physical Education team will be the hot favourite since they earlier lifted the trophy in the first and third editions and had created record by appearing in the finals for the fourth time in succession.
USL-2019 is being jointly organized by the Officers’ Club of Rajiv Gandhi University (OCRGU), Alumni Association of RGU (AARGU), RGU Employees’ Association (RGUEA), RGU Teachers’ Association (RGUTA), RGU Research Scholars’ Forum (RGURSF) and RGU Students’ Union (RGUSU). The final will be held on Tuesday, October 22 here at Ground No.1 and 2 pm will be the kick off time. MLA, 29 Basar AC Gokar Basar will be the chief guest. RGU PR
