RONO HILLS, Jun 5: The lone central university of the state and one of the premier higher educational institution in the Northeast, Rajiv Gandhi University has secured 74th position among the top 150 government universities of the country based on a survey conducted by the EducationWorld magazine for the academic year 2020-21.
Till date, it is the highest ranking RGU has bagged in a national level ranking. In May 2020 edition of the magazine, among the top 150 government universities, RGU scored a total of 798 out of 1300 points to secure the 74th position. RGU separately scored 121 and 122 points out of 150 each in Infrastructure & Facility and in Competency of Faculty respectively and 67 in Faculty Welfare & Development, 62 in Curriculum & Pedagogy, 65 in Industry Interface, 59 in Placement, 62 in Internationalism, 68 in Leadership/Governance Quality and 71 in Range/Diversity of Programmes offered, each having 100 points. However, RGU hasn’t scored well in the Research & Innovation parameter as it managed only 101 points out of 300. Survey for the rankings was conducted by interviewing 4,168 sample respondents comprising 2,214 faculty and 1,126 final year students of 162 universities and 828 industry representatives in 25 cities. In the Northeast, the varsity has stood 3rd in rankings after Tezpur University and North-Eastern Hill University.
Governor Brigadier (Dr.) B. D. Mishra who is also the Chief Rector of RGU congratulated the varsity’s teaching and non-teaching fraternity over a telephonic conversation with VC Professor Saket Kushwaha today and wished it continues to excel in coming days. VC congratulated both the teaching and non-teaching staff for their relentless efforts in uplifting the quality of education and improving the competitiveness at national level. Joint Registrar (Academic & Conference) Dr. David Pertin who is also a member of the university’s Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) although visibly elated said there are still some areas with room for improvements and RGU as a team will strive to find itself amongst the toppers and perform well in the upcoming National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2020. He further informed that RGU is the only government-funded university from the Northeast which stood out among 24 organizations from the entire country selected for receiving grant-in aid under Atal Innovation Mission of the NITI Aayog for establishment of Atal Community Innovation Centre (ACIC).
During last one year, it is for the second time the varsity has bagged a national level recognition, the earlier being the NIRF 2019 rankings when it was placed 99th among all universities of the country which was a marked improvement by 25 positions over 2018’s 124th .
RGU has also been selected for establishment of the Centre of Sports Science & Research under the National Centre of Sports Science and Research (NCSSR) scheme of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports recently, which is the first of its kind in Northeast and 6th in the entire country. RGU PR
