ITANAGAR, Feb 18: A two day national seminar on ‘Gender Performativity and Ideology’ is underway at the Department of English, Rajiv Gandhi University from February 18 & 19.
The inaugural session started with observation of a 2 minute silence to pay homage to the martyrs of the Pulwama attack.
The convenor of the seminar Bompi Riba explained the objectives of the seminar. The Dean said that literature has come a long way from dealing with the philosophical realms and abstract concepts to dealing with common everyday events in the modern times. He also stressed on the contribution made by the Department of English and Hindi to study of literature.
Professor Nandana Dutta, in her keynote address, stressed on the theories of gender performativity in different contexts focusing on women in Northeast India and how homogenization of women in the Northeast leads to many difficulties.
Former Vice Chancellor, Prof. T. Mibang and Vice Chancellor Professor Kushwaha put forward their views on the topic of the seminar.
Besides the release of Abstract Volumes by distinguished guests, saplings were presented to them to spread the message of sustainable development.
