Rono Hills, Apr 22: Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) celebrated its 18th Rongali Bihu festival recently at the main auditorium with fanfare and gaiety.
The day-long celebration started with the hoisting of the Bihu flag in front of the main auditorium by the President of the Bihu Celebration Committee Professor H.N. Sharma who highlighted the journey of the celebration at the university that started eighteen years ago. The main programme started with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and paying homage and floral tributes to Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.
Chief Guest on the occasion, Vice Chancellor of RGU, Professor Saket Kushwaha wished everyone a very happy and prosperous Assamese New Year and Rongali Bihu.
The organizers also felicitated the Registrar of RGU, Professor Tomo Riba who has been associated with the Bihu Celebrations since inception. Professor Riba highlighted that Rangali Bihu has come to fill the vacuum in Rono Hills after the Nyokum, Losar, Holi and Mopin celebrations and helps in establishing close communion between the Assamese and Arunachalee communities.
Rongilee Rono, a Bihu souvenir of RGU Bihu Celebration Committee, 2019 was also released. A number of Xusori and Bihu dances were performed by the RGU Assam Community, RGU Assam Students Forum and other invited Bihu troupes.
A musical presentation by the students of the Bihpuria Blind School remained the most pleasant part of the entire programme. RGU Press Release
