RONO HILLS, Jun 30: The Rajiv Gandhi University fraternity today bade farewell to a stalwart academician   Professor Tamo Mibang marking the end of 41 years of dynamic and pathbreaking academic career. He is also the first Arunachalee to be become a Vice Chancellor of a central university. 
Initiated by Prof. Saket Kushwaha, Vice Chancellor of the university, the ceremony began with the tour of Prof. Tamo Mibang to all the departments and administrative sections of the university. This was followed by a presentation ceremony at the chambers of the vice chancellor.
Following the interactive session, Prof. Tamo Mibang was escorted to Conference Hall of Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies for the formal Felicitation & Farwell Prograram.  In his welcome address the Registrar of the University, Prof. Tomo Riba, read a self composed poem dedicated to the life and work of Prof. Mibang. Many call him the Frontier Gandhi...for your poise, calm and integrity stated the poem. 

Prof. Amitava Mitra, Pro Vice Chancellor, RGU also spoke on the occasion. His farewell was also marked by two other significant events, one the launch of RGU website and the Bi-lingual monthly edition of the Rono Post. 
Prof. Mibang in his farewell address thanked the University fraternity and asked everyone to carry forward the legacy that has been created and nurtured by him. He stressed on the need of team work. He expressed his desire to make this University an internationally recognized University. He sees great potential in the Youth of this University and the only need he felt was to provide them with opportunities. 
Prof. Saket Kushwaha, Vice Chancellor praised Prof. Tamo Mibang for his uncountable contribution to the State and nation. He said, "though Prof. Mibang is leaving the University, he will remain with us forever. Prof. Kushwaha addressed him as a living legend of the university.
Professor Tamo Mibang, through his academic discernment, has contributed exponentially in the field of academics in Arunachal Pradesh in particular and the nation at large. 
The initiation of his academic voyage was set to sail when he joined as a Lecturer under Government of Arunachal Pradesh at Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat. He worked there from 1978-1988. His next destination was undertaking the task of a Reader in the Department of History, the then Arunachal University (Rajiv Gandhi University) from 1988  1995. Before joining as the Hounourable Vice Chancellor of the University, he served as a Professor in the Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies (AITS), RGU, from 1995-2012. After completion of his stint as the Vice Chancellor of the University he rejoined the AITS, Department in 2018.
