Rono Hills, Apr 9: Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) has catapulted itself into the bracket of top 100 Universities of India, from among 907 universities of the country.
The rankings were announced by President Ramnath Kovind in New Delhi on Monday and the methodology of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India has been adopted to choose the rankings.
Discussing the ramifications of the ranking, RGU Vice-Chancellor Professor Saket Kushwaha showered deep appreciation to the RGU team and the stewardship of chief rector and Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brigadier (Dr.) B. D. Mishra & former VC Professor Tamo Mibang for the achievement. He also lauded the efforts of the Director of Internal Quality Assurance Cell Professor Amitava Mitra, Professor Utpal Bhattacharjee (CSE), Chemistry Head of Department Rajesh Chakrabarty, Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering Ani Taggu and Assistant Professor of the department Firos A for their contributions in facilitating the evaluation process with the NIRF. The RGU VC also commented that efforts will be now to raise the ranking ladder and reach among the top 5. He also extended his gratitude to the Goverment of Arunachal Pradesh as well as the state’s active civil society for supporting RGU all through its evolution.
RGU Registrar, Professor Tomo Riba said that the University has constantly been focused on a core value of expansion through its outreach and in-reach initiatives, enrolment, fair and diverse recruitment and ensuring the best in higher education.
“Our efforts have now resulted in this and we are really much encouraged by this recognition,” he said.
Applauding this achievement of the University, both the Rajiv Gandhi University Students’ Union (RGUSU) and the Rajiv Gandhi University Scholars’ Forum (RGUSF) congratulated the students, research scholars, faculty members and administration of RGU for the good work accomplished.
The rise in rank for the RGU from last year’s 124 to 99 signifies a watermark achievement in the RGU’s evolution given the fact that its location is in a border state with challenges of connectivity, communication and lack of adequate resources.
Not only has this brought the University in the same league as the other 99 top Universities in the country but has also opened up avenues for better collaborations and partnerships considering that this ranking is a major criteria for even international funding institutions. RGU Press Release
