TEZU, Nov 6: Due to the lackadaisical attitude of the state government, especially the health department, the Rehabilitation Centre at the Zonal Hospital here has been in disarray.
The Directorate of Health Services (DHS) Naharlagun has failed even to release salaries of the four contingency staff and medicines have been in short supply since April causing much inconvenience to run the rehabilitation centre.
Dr S Chai Pul, DMO who has taken personnel interest being a native of the district is now totally disappointed due to the apathetic attitude of the DHS.
According to rehab sources, over 310 addicts are undergoing treatment and it is receiving overwhelming response from Anjaw, Lohit, Namsai, Dibang and Lower Dibang Valley districts respectively.
“We have started the centre following government assurance but it is left with huge liabilities pending on medicines and staff salaries. We are finding much difficulty to run the centre even though food has been managed from the hospital for those undergoing treatment. We also manage doctor from the hospital itself. Dr S Towang, SMO, trained in RIMS Imphal on drugs and de-addiction, is voluntarily extending his services,” informed the DMO.
“Sometimes we manage staff salaries from our own pockets and medicines are being procured on loan. How long can we continue this way? The authority should release the funds on time for the smooth running of the only rehabilitation centre in this easternmost part of Arunachal,” she added.
