ITANAGAR, Apr 22:

Welcoming the decision taken by the Central Government to ban red lights atop vehicles from May 1, Governor PB Acharya has already removed red beacons from vehicles of Raj Bhavan.

Welcoming the Prime Minister’s decision, the Governor said that in a democratic country there is no room for VIP culture and all are equal before the law and should be treated equally.

In many places, the red beacons had become a lightning rod for public disgust at official corruption and the ‘VVIP culture’. A large number of persons are using red lights on their vehicles for committing crimes in different parts of the country and they do so with impunity because the police officials are mostly scared of checking vehicles with red lights, the governor added.
