ITANAGAR, Apr 28:  After the five accused in connection with molestation, torture of two girls and their mother through witchcraft practices were granted bailon Thursday evening, the activists of Adi Baane Kebang Youth Wing, Women Against Social Evils, All Bogong Students’ Union (E), Adi Students’ Union, PKWSSW and Jering Matkir Society youth members protested in front of the Superintendent of Police office and Chief Judicial Magistrate court today.

The protesters raised slogans against the police department, magistrate and also against Home Minister for allegedly granting bail to the 5 arrested accused who were to be produced in court on Friday. The protesters said that, the accused were to be produced before the court on Friday, but they were granted bail on Thursday evening itself without any public prosecutor. They also raised strong resentment over the Judge, CJM for granting bail to the accused without knowing the actual story behind the case.

SP, Pranav Tayal clarified to the protesters that, the police had objected for granting bail at this stage and had requested the court for judicial remand of the accused for 14 days so that proper investigation are done. “The bail matter is completely of CJM and JMFC where police have nothing to do. We had also arrested the accused after receiving the FIR, but court didn’t hear the bail objection petition of the police”, clarified the SP to the angry protestors who were strongly demanding for re-arrest of the five accused, including arrest of another perpetrator, Liza Perme Apang.

On rigorous protest in front of CJM court, three representatives of the protesting groups were allowed to meet judge, Hirendra Kashyap, APJS who denied the demand of the mob to re-arrest the accused. On this, the mob turned violent and a tussle broke out between protesters and police during which a woman received minor injury and the SP was also reportedly slightly injured.

Meanwhile, sources of WASE has said this evening that, an FIR was counter lodged against Osong Moyong, father and husband of the victims alleging him of torturing his wife (one of the victim in the witchcraft). But interestingly, the FIR was said to be lodged by someone else, not the wife, nor her close relative. The WASE sources said that, the counter FIR was lodged by the alleged accused or their close aides to distort the case against alleged perpetrators.

Now the case will depend much on visit of Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women on Saturday as situation are getting tenser after granting bail to the alleged accused. The said alleged perpetrators released on bail are now said to be engaging in distorting evidences and threatening the complainants including targeting and pressurizing media persons not to report it.
