NAMSAI, Feb 18:  Hundreds of people took to the streets against the Joint High Power Committee (JHPC) recommendation to grant PRC to Non APST of Lekang and Changlang here today.
The protest rally was held under the banner of various organizations like All Tai Khampti Singpho Students’ Union (ATKSSU),All Namsai District Students’ Union (ANDSU),Tai Khampti  Singpho Council (TKSC), Women Welfare Society Namsai (WWSN) and Chongkham Area Youth Association.
Holding placards and shouting slogans against the state government, protestors also staged dharna in front of the private bungalow of the Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, local MLA Chow Zingnu Namchoom and Office of the Deputy Commissioner Namsai.
“Despite  our strong protest  on JHPC report, it has come to our knowledge  that committee has already submitted the report to state government , however we demand  that report shouldn’t  be tabled in  ensuing assembly session,” said the president ANDSU Jaylai Manlai. He further informed that a joint memorandum has been submitted to the Deputy Commissioner Namsai.
“Our demand is to immediately rollback the JHPC report on granting PRC to Non-APST,” said the president ATKSSU Chow Kohana Choupoo .  The report has not only hurt the sentiments of the indigenous people but also violated the laid down norms under Eastern Bengal Frontier Act 1857, added Kohana.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Namsai Tapashya Raghav  has assured the agitators to forward their memorandum to the concerned authority for quick and appropriate result.
