ITANAGAR, May 5:  Reiterating its charter of demands All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) today staged a mass protest rally against the state and central government for its indifference towards long pending grievances like appointing regular director in various institutions as well as appointment of regular Governor in the state.

Participating in the rally, hundreds of students from Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST), National Institute of Technology (NIT) and community based organization holding placards and banners demanded regular directors for NIT and NERIST, release of scholarship, regular Governor in the state and others.

Questioning for not appointing regular Governor for the state, President AAPSU Hawa Bagang said, ‘We are facing intimidation from China, our neighbours Assam and Nagaland are illegally encroaching our lands creating disturbance in the boundary areas but the people are helpless because there is no one in the Raj Bhawan to hear the voice of the people.’

Bagang further demanded immediate appointment of regular Governor from military background who will understand and tackle the international boundary issue with China.

Slamming the state government for not giving due importance to grievances of the students community, Bagang said ‘Many reputed institution like NIT and NERIST are running without any regular director which is directly or indirectly affecting the academic activities of these institutions.’

He also advised students to be more cautious during filling up of forms for scholarships while informing that Rs 8.53 crore has been already sanctioned whereas at least Rs 69 crore is yet to be sanctioned for scholarship.

AAPSU is also demanding, renaming of RGU to Arunachal University, renovation of road from BageTinali to RGU campus, creating of engineering wing in Directorate of Medical  Education and others.
